I’m a casual user of Redmine software who was accustomed in his career to the on-site model with some gimmicks, one of them being RedmineUP’s Checklist plugin. Fast forward into the future and I have my own tiny piece of Redmine with custom theme (those aren’t updated often) and CRM plugin. All of them seem like to be a missing essential for the whole platform to function as a complete solution to project management and delivery 😉 But not all is unicorns and rainbows. As much praise is given to the support team, there are some limits of the Redmine platform itself. These superb features that RedmineUP plugins provide are massacred by the UI (same reason why there are many Redmine forks that try to revamp the front-end to compete with popular SaaS alternatives). Which means there is steep learning curve as non-interactive controls are simply non-intuitive and require more focus in documentation and support circles. For me, editing deal statuses was a mess to begin with. On the other hand you have back-end API extensions so you don’t have to dig deep in the UI when you don’t have to. Thing is, technical people can manage this, but the dated foundation is a word of caution for people who aren’t experienced in web technology; hence making it a specialized software for a rather narrow audience

As a visual learner, designer, and as somebody who’s really meticulous about project management.. This is one of those perfect apps that fit the bill for me. I’m not entirely into “all-in-one” apps as they are.. Essentially “all-mediocre-apps-in-one” and I’m really glad to see that Poda didn’t go that typical route.

A lot of the redeeming qualities about Poda is:

1. If you want a simple mind mapping tool, Poda is probably one of the best options. Sometimes, I like to just splash ideas into an infinite canvas and just go from there first and Poda is capable of doing exactly that (and more).

2. If you prefer to create a roadmap of your projects in a mindmap fashion, Poda (obviously) does this really well. Personally, getting my projects organised like this is a pretty new thing for me but Poda got me absolutely hooked in looking at my projects in the form of a mindmap. It gives me the opportunity to look at things from a macro and micro scale which is extremely useful.
